As you will read in my previous post, Papi and Pedroia have an unhealthily close relationship. They will do anything for each other… And I mean N E thing. Just wishing him well. Not a big deal …. Please login to leave a reply. Log in Register. Username or Email Address.

Remember Me. Go To Pro Hockey Rumors. Go To Hoops Rumors. Comments His injuries the last few years have dropped his career average to. HOVG, sure. As far as the HOF is concerned. Grich and Whitiker are much more deserving. And Kent 1. If he was squeaky clean.. Or just bitter speculation? Whitaker was ROTY Whitaker won a ring in Why must I be bitter to have that opinion? Grich and Whittier are Hall of Famers.

Great player. I think they are on the hook for that contract, unless it was insured. It sure was, But he was the best player. Bye Bye. Hope Machado gives him a call or at least a christmas card.

Borderline Hall of Famer? Jeff Kent 1. Sad if it ends this way….. One of the more clutch players, always killed the Angels. Still, sad to see him go this way. Altuve needs to be careful or he will tear his knees apart like pedroia did. Alomar is beyond underrated 1. Not a big deal … just another millionaire stupid contract sitting at home!

Just another clown comment from an absolute clown. I think Chavis might have a little to do w this too. If we were just going by offense, though, Pedroia wouldn't be considered a superstar; his defense is what puts him over the top. Pedroia plays second base -- an important defensive position -- and he plays it really, really well.

The defensive statistic used in WAR, ultimate zone rating UZR , ranks Pedroia as 15 runs above average this season, the second-best total for any player in baseball behind only Brett Gardner 16 runs. And since , Pedroia has been a total of 38 runs above average, seventh-best in baseball and the second-highest score for a second baseman behind Utley 47 runs.

Since defensive statistics are a relatively new development, there is some controversy surrounding them; there are multiple different defensive stats and they can sometimes give conflicting reports on the same player. That's not the case with Pedroia, though. With all this in mind, is it that ridiculous to say that Pedroia has been nearly as valuable as Jose Bautista this season? Bautista has been an offensive juggernaut, but he is average to below-average defensively in right field and at third base.

Also, if we're comparing the two players, we have to account for the positions they play; right fielders are expected to be above average on offense as a position, they are 17 percent above average this season , while good offensive second basemen are rare 3 percent below average as a position.

Bautista still has an edge on Pedroia, but the difference between the two is a lot closer than it appears at first glance. Pedroia is one of the most complete players in baseball, and he's also one of the most underrated. Dustin Pedroia did a lot of things very well. He had excellent patience and bat control, and his defense was stellar.

But I think one aspect of his game that was never fully appreciated was his work on the base paths. As an immense fan of stolen bases, I always appreciated that he was aggressive going station to station.

Between and , he stole at least 20 bases four times and he threw in another 17 in Steals obviously became much less of a part of his game as he aged and the injuries piled up, but he finished his career with thefts, which ranks sixth in franchise history. No, it involves a good old fashioned postseason home run. Pedroia hit five home runs in the playoffs during his career, but none was as exhilarating as the two-run home run he smashed over the Green Monster in Game 7 of the ALCS.

The Red Sox may have been leading at the time Pedroia hit this, and they might have gone on to win with Pedroia contributing three more RBI to that total , but, emotionally speaking, that home run was really the final knockout punch of the series. Thanks for all of them, Dustin.

Laser Show Forever. My favorite Pedroia moment is the lead off homer in the World Series. Kicking off a four-game sweep in that style from a rookie is just wild. He set the tone on the field with his bat and off the field with his personality, and seeing a rookie just light a fire under the team like that was just so cool.

It was clear they were about to house the Rockies.
